The mechanism of repair by which Dsup works is currently unknown. However, it is hypothesized to bind to free DNA and protect it from damage. It has also been hypothesized to protect against oxidative stress.

This construct, like the others created in the course of our research, consists of a Lac promoter, an RBS, a coding sequence, and blue chromoprotein, which is used as a reporter.
